Paula Sands, one of the Quad Cities' most beloved newscasters was diagnosed with Stage II ovarian cancer in April 2011. She underwent surgery a week after her diagnosis and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. In announcing her medical condition, Ms. Sands vowed to make her cancer treatment and recovery process, including wig shopping, a part of her show.
According to KWQC-TV6 news director Denise Killian, "Paula definitely wants to help people. She's going to be talking alot about research and progress that's being made in the fight against not only ovarian cancer, but all forms of cancer."
Ms. Sands and NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Foundation have teamed up to help raise awareness and funds for ovarian cancer.
